Ace Hardware to Open 11 New Stores in California
Cooperative expands west coast presence, takes over leases of former Orchard Supply Hardware locations
Ace Hardware Corporation, the world’s largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative, announced today it will open new Ace Hardware stores in 11 former Orchard Supply Hardware locations in California.
“Ace is delighted to fulfill a need by bringing back the local, neighborhood hardware store in 11 California communities,” said John Venhuizen, president and CEO of Ace Hardware Corporation. “Ace intends to honor the tremendous legacy Orchard Supply Hardware established in these communities while infusing them with Ace’s unique culture and helpful service for which Ace has become famous.”
With 173 new domestic store openings in 2018, Ace Hardware continues to grow and increase its presence in local markets with over 4,400 stores across the country. Ace Hardware is excited about the opportunity to serve several communities spanning both northern and southern California. Nine of the stores will be owned and operated by Westlake Ace Hardware, a subsidiary of Ace Hardware Corporation. Two of the eleven stores will be owned and operated by independent retailers.
Ace Hardware anticipates the opening of most locations this summer with the average size store around 30,000 square feet. Ace intends to create more than 600 new jobs collectively in these communities, many of whom will trade in their former Orchard Supply badge to become an Ace red-vested hero.
“The entire Ace Hardware team and I are very excited about our upcoming expansion into California. Our growth in the Golden State is the latest example of the vibrant and positive evolution the Ace brand has gone through during the past several years,” said Joe Jeffries, president and CEO of Westlake Ace Hardware.
Jeffries added, “We’re eager to show our new neighbors and customers throughout California how Ace lives the Helpful Promise every day by delivering reliable service, helpful advice, and products to help our neighbors get their projects done right. We also look forward to joining the many other wonderful Ace retailers in the state and partnering with them to consistently deliver an outstanding consumer brand experience each and every day.”
Ace Hardware is the largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative in the world with more than 5,200 locally owned and operated hardware stores in approximately 70 countries. Headquartered in Oak Brook, Ill., Ace and its subsidiaries operate an expansive network of distribution centers in the U.S. and have distribution capabilities in Ningbo, China; Colon, Panama; and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Since 1924, Ace has become a part of local communities around the world and known as the place with the helpful hardware folks. For more information, visit acehardware.com or newsroom.acehardware.com
