Ace Hardware earns prestigious No. 6 ranking on the Franchise Times Top 200 list of largest U.S. franchises by worldwide sales

Ace Hardware Corporation, the largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative in the world, is pleased to announce it has been ranked No. 6 on the 2016 Franchise Times Top 200, the annual list of largest U.S. franchises by worldwide sales.

“The Ace Hardware team is proud to hold its ranking at No. 6 on the Franchise Times Top 200 for the second consecutive year,” said Dan Miller, Vice President, Retail Operations and New Business. “Ace’s business model is unique in that it offers entrepreneurs the independence and autonomy to completely tailor their businesses to the needs of their local community, while being backed by an award-winning, globally-trusted and successful brand.”

Ace Hardware ranked in the top 10 alongside other world-renowned brands, including McDonalds, RE/MAX, Subway, 7-Eleven, KFC and Burger King. The October 2016 report issued by Franchise Times noted that Ace Hardware was one of the few franchise systems to experience significant growth in the prior year, gaining $557 million in 2015. The report noted that this level of financial gain fuels sectors of the economy and consumer confidence.*

Although it is considered a franchised business since independent owners operate most of its locations, Ace is formally a retailer-owned cooperative. Ace “franchisees” or retailers are not only business owners, but also shareholders in the organization. Unlike a traditional franchise operation, Ace Hardware store owners pay no royalty fees.

The Franchise Times Top 200 is an annual ranking of the 200 largest franchise systems in the U.S. by global systemwide sales, based on the previous year’s performance.
